Welcome to the February edition of the Numbers newsletter

Now that we’ve resurfaced from preparing and filing tax returns, our attention turns to the new year and we’re pleased to welcome you to the first update of 2015.  It’s great to be welcoming so many new clients to Numbers as well as our existing clients too.

The end of 2014 saw some changes at Numbers which you can find out more about here along with an overview of our roles and responsibilities.

We’ve been developing a new online portal – initially to enhance our own internal processes but also with the end aim of giving you everything you need relating to your accounts and tax at your fingertips.  However, we want to ensure we’re giving you something you actually need / want, so please do take a moment to find out a bit more here.

We’re also pleased to bring you our quarterly briefing which covers a range of topics including changes to the various reliefs you can/can’t claim in relation to corporation tax and self-assessment, improvements to CIS and restricting relief on residential lettings.  You can access the briefing here.

Here’s to a great 2015 – we look forward to working with you and if there’s anything you need in the interim, do just call us on 01296 620220 or drop us an email to info@numbers-ltd.co.uk.

Kind regards,

Matt, Kyla, Sharon, Liz, Rachel, Nici and Sam

Staff update

Some of you may be aware that we have recently said thank you and goodbye to David and Paul who are off to pastures new. David has left to join a larger practice, which is a great opportunity for him to focus on specialising in tax which is of particular interest to him. Paul has recently set up his own company which allows him to manage his work, family and other commitments in a more flexible way. We’re sure you all join us in wishing them the best of luck.

We have an established team in place to continue to support you and you can find out more about each of us and our responsibilities here. If you have any queries about any of this, please do give us a call on 01296 620220 and we’ll be happy to help.

Numbers portal

As you would expect there are many packages for accountants on the market to deal with client management, but having tried an assortment, none of them quite suit our needs.  So rather than battling to fit a square peg in a round hole, we’ve been developing our own bespoke cloud-based system.  It’s hosted by Amazon on servers in Europe and fully encrypted with the highest level of Thawte encryption so you can rest assured we have your data as safe as it can be.

The first phase of development has taken us about a year, but we now have a fully operational system which absolutely suits our needs. It is helping to ensure we know exactly what needs doing, when it needs doing and enabling us to be far more pro-active with our clients and their deadlines.

So here’s where we need your help please.  The next phase we have planned is to add a client portal so that you can access key documents online and also provide us with the information we need to complete your work.  Let’s take your personal tax return as an example.  Rather than having to download, print, fill in and either return it to us in person or scan it and email the tax return checklist back to us, the plan is that all you’ll need to do will be to log in to the portal, fill in the detail online and then send or upload any supporting documents.  You’ll also be able to log in to download your historic tax returns 24x7x365 at your convenience when you need them.  We would also like to adopt a similar approach to year end accounts and our other services.

However, as you’ll appreciate this is going to take time and money to implement and whilst we have no issue with spending either of these, we want to make sure we’re developing something you actually want and will use.  Please take a moment to click the relevant link below so that we can gauge interest – there’s no need to fill in a survey and it’s totally anonymous – all it will take is a click!  Thank you in advance for taking the time to help us.

Yes please - that sounds great and I would use it!

No thanks - not sure that I would use it
